No we do not have this poster available. No I cannot source another. No we do not print copies, reprints, re-editions or any other form of fake. BUT YES! I agree! It is a very beautiful poster hanging on the wall.

Officially over winter. Constantly wishing for sunshine. Currently dreaming of the south of France. Take me here…. or here…. or here. Merci beaucoup!

Another fridge poster. Tall and skinny. Perfect for that awkward space. Penguin. Giraffe. Parfait.

And suddenly my life is all about refrigerators. Buying one for me, and researching posters at work. Who knew they were so complicated? Top freezer, bottom freezer, temp control, crispers and trays. Lefor/Openo, Saint-Genies and Rene Ravo know what I mean. REALLY, all I want is a fridge that will make me so happy I want to marry it. Is this too much to ask?

le cadeau idéal….
Uh oh. I may have just bought myself another poster. I may also have just acquired a mortgage. I may also be supposed to be saving every last cent. Actually…. make that definitely. I am definitely supposed to be saving every last cent. But you know what, posters make me HAPPY. And c’mon, how could I pass up this beauty? By the master Herbert Leupin. The way I see it, my boyfriend should just be glad I didn’t buy the pair!

Ah, Orangina…. it just tastes like summer in France. Orangina posters are pretty hard to come across these days, and many were only printed in a very large (230 x 160cm) format. If you don’t have the space, or the spare change, for one of these, how about this little poster? An original lithographic proof for the book ‘Les Affiches de Villemot’, each small illustration is a different poster Villemot produced for the brand, right from 1953 to 1956. La fidélité d’une marque à un artist…. loyalty indeed!

Oh I do love these posters, designed to fit on the side of a bus. And they don’t get much better than the wonderful Virlux. A cheese and butter train, driven by a cow. Mais oui!

en fait….
I have always been slightly confused by the imagery of this poster…. but now I have it SOLVED! It has been said that the tag line for this poster is taken from the famous quote of King Louis XVI of France, “L’État, c’est moi” (I am the State). And so, this would explain the presence of the sun in the corner, as King Louis is also known as ‘The Sun King’.

Golly. There are some seriously beautiful posters popping up in Melbourne homes these days. The first two are from the home of Jane Hall, and the third from the home of Jane and Matt Martino. You can see more of their lovely abodes on the always inspirational The Design Files blog. It makes me so happy to see people taking risks with their poster choices, buying something completely different, quirky and totally original. This is the way to buy people. Just get what you love, and what works for YOU and YOUR HOME. Happy days.

A break in normal programming for an important announcement. I HEART MILTON GLASER. This morning the State Of Design Festival in Melbourne held a panel discussion featuring Glaser (via skype) and a group of Melbourne graphic designers. Super inspiring. Thank you Melbourne, thank you Mr Glaser, thank you State of Design.

An original from the Les Maitre de l’Affiches series, this lithographic plate by the American Charles Herbert Woodbury was designed for the July issue of the Century Magazine. A beautiful example of flat colour blocking and sharp lines, it was inspired by Japanese art, and is one of my favourites from our collection. It is also in the collection at MoMA. To learn more about the Les Maitre de l’Affiches series click here. To see the poster at Galmont come on in. To make a super smart poster purchase call me. Three simple steps really!

Oh I do love the French. Advertising on everything. This sweet little tin sits on the desk right in front of me, and the bright red colour and fun design is always complimented by visitors to the gallery. But before you ask…. sorry no, it’s NOT FOR SALE (but the poster is).

en fait….
According to an image taken by the Vasselais print house, and then passed onto the Bibliotheque Forney, this poster was originally designed with a little boy in place of the dog, and the man had a mustache. Fascinating! I wonder why, and whom, changed the design. Maybe the fella was not ‘au naturel!’ enough with a cheeky mo….

This is going to sound odd, no matter which way I say it. But here goes…. the posters speak to me. Yep. This one says ‘ta daaa!’, this one ‘bonjour mon chéri’ (in a cheesy French accent), and this one ‘good morning!!!!’. This poster above is one of my favourites to see in the morning. It says ‘Hello! Good morning! It is a wonderful day! Smile! Be Happy!’ What a delightful way to start the day.

Time for a little ‘small business love’. Steven Blick is the man behind Herr Blick, the smoothest hair salon in town. You can read all about it on Broadsheet and Three Thousand. In a beautiful building at the Paris end of Collins Street, he has decked the whole place out with mid-century furniture from Grandfathers Axe, and posters from Galmont. Installing the posters has never been so aesthetically pleasing, looking down at the streets of Melbourne on a wet and windy evening. What a super space. Big things will be happening here friends…. just you wait.
