So this week has officially become fridge week. And what better way to celebrate than with a classic Savignac. This design was actually used for 3 years by Frigeco, the model of refrigerator was simply updated by Savignac for each poster.

poster push….

And suddenly my life is all about refrigerators. Buying one for me, and researching posters at work. Who knew they were so complicated? Top freezer, bottom freezer, temp control, crispers and trays. Lefor/Openo, Saint-Genies and Rene Ravo know what I mean. REALLY, all I want is a fridge that will make me so happy I want to marry it. Is this too much to ask?

on the wall….

Uh oh. I may have just bought myself another poster. I may also have just acquired a mortgage. I may also be supposed to be saving every last cent. Actually…. make that definitely. I am definitely supposed to be saving every last cent. But you know what, posters make me HAPPY. And c’mon, how could I pass up this beauty? By the master Herbert Leupin.
Ah, Orangina…. it just tastes like summer in France. Orangina posters are pretty hard to come across these days, and many were only printed in a very large (230 x 160cm) format. If you don’t have the space, or the spare change, for one of these, how about this little poster? An original lithographic proof for the book ‘Les Affiches de Villemot’, each small illustration is a different poster Villemot produced for the brand, right from 1953 to 1956. La fidélité d’une marque à un artist…. loyalty indeed!

at my desk….

Oh I do love these posters, designed to fit on the side of a bus. And they don’t get much better than the wonderful Virlux.
I have always been slightly confused by the imagery of this poster…. but now I have it SOLVED! It has been said that the tag line for this poster is taken from the famous quote of King Louis XVI of France, “L’État, c’est moi” (I am the State). And so, this would explain the presence of the sun in the corner, as King Louis is also known as ‘The Sun King’.

on the wall….

Golly. There are some seriously beautiful posters popping up in Melbourne homes these days. The first two are from the home of Jane Hall, and the third from the home of Jane and Matt Martino. You can see more of their lovely abodes on the always inspirational The Design Files blog. It makes me so happy to see people taking risks with their poster choices, buying something completely different, quirky and totally original. This is the way to buy people. Just get what you love, and what works for YOU and YOUR HOME. Happy days.

A break in normal programming for an important announcement.
Oh I do love the French. Advertising on everything. This sweet little tin sits on the desk right in front of me, and the bright red colour and fun design is always complimented by visitors to the gallery. But before you ask…. sorry no, it’s NOT FOR SALE (but the poster is).

en fait….

According to an image taken by the Vasselais print house, and then passed onto the Bibliotheque Forney, this poster was originally designed with a little boy in place of the dog, and the man had a mustache. Fascinating! I wonder why, and whom, changed the design.
New posters in Smith Street Bazaar this week. Just don’t ask about the accident involving a ladder and the red lamp on the left. Oops. We have gone for a monotone style. What do you think?

le cadeau idéal….

A carton is a small, point of sale advertisement, usually with little holes on the top with string for hanging. Printed on a thick card stock, the image was often a small version of a large format poster. We have quite a collection here at Galmont, you can see them all lined up on the wall to the right. This Cherry Maurice is a winner, the art deco text simply ‘irrésistible!’
